Wedding Guide - How to Prepare for the Arrival of Your Wedding Photographer (and Videographer)
Introduction
Planning a wedding requires energy and attention to detail, but many couples overlook how important it is to be well-prepared before the photographer and videographer arrive.
As wedding photographers, we’ve seen firsthand how a few simple steps can greatly enhance the quality of your images and make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.
In this article, we’ve collected practical tips designed for couples about to experience one of the most emotional days of their lives.
You’ll learn how to streamline the getting-ready process, approach the ceremony with peace of mind, and make the most of your couple portraits.
Preparation
Groom
The groom’s preparation usually takes around 30 minutes. We ask that you already be dressed in your shirt and trousers when we arrive. A few additional details can make a big difference:
Keep the room tidy: less clutter = more harmony in your photos.
Arrange personal items thoughtfully: watch, cologne, cufflinks… these make for beautiful detail shots.
Remove any distracting elements: plastic bags, bottles, boxes, labels.
Prepare everything near a bright window: natural light is the best lighting for photos.
Bride
The bride’s preparation takes longer, up to about 2 hours. We’ll start photographing once the makeup is nearly finished.
Here are a few ways to ensure this time is stress-free and enjoyable:
Choose a bright room, ideally with natural light, even for makeup.
Avoid harsh artificial lighting when possible (ring lights, neon, etc.).
Keep the space tidy and spacious enough to move freely.
Have the dress, shoes, invitations, bouquet, and accessories ready in advance so we can capture them at their best.
Cerimony
The ceremony is emotional and filled with meaning. To experience it fully:
Walk in slowly—no need to rush. Enjoy every step and every look.
After the ceremony, feel free to pause for a few photos with your closest loved ones.
Group photos with friends and extended family can wait until the reception, allowing the emotional flow of the ceremony to remain intact.
Couple Portrait Session
A moment dedicated entirely to the two of you—a breath of calm during the day when focus returns to your love and connection:
Usually held at the reception venue. If you have another location in mind, we’ll assess travel times together.
The average duration is 30 minutes, up to a maximum of one hour.
Be natural: hug, laugh, connect. Real emotion can’t be forced—it’s meant to be embraced.
One Last Tip
Everything doesn’t need to be perfect. What matters is that you’re present, relaxed, and ready to live your day with joy. We’ll be there to capture it—just as it is—with a sharp eye and an open heart.
